27 August 1999 - Now you can automate Box Of Tricks!
Quite software are pleased to announce an alliance with leading plug-in developer callas software which brings automation facilities to Quite's products for the first time.
pdfToolbox is a collection of valuable tools from callas, and includes pdfBatchProcess Pro, an automation plug-in for Acrobat 3.0 or 4.0, which works with "watched folders". pdfBatchProcess Pro can automate selected plug-ins, and Quite A Box Of Tricks is the one of the first plug-ins to support automation in pdfBatchProcess Pro.
If a customer has both of these products installed, it is easy to process a folder full of files, converting colours, shrinking, thickening hairlines, even optimizing for the Web. Almost all of Quite A Box Of Trick's tools can now be automated.
An evaluation copy of pdfBatchProcess Pro can now be downloaded from callas (remember, it is part of the pdfToolBox suite). And you can download a preview of the new Quite A Box Of Tricks from our preview web page. You can check out the automation facilities even in demo mode, and licensed users of both products can perform full automation now. Comments on this preview version are welcome. We expect it to be released towards the end of September, 1999.
Aandi Inston, founder of Quite Software, is pleased. Our customers are delighted with Quite A Box Of Tricks, but the most common request is for some degree of automation. This has given us an opportunity to exploit the automation facilities in a mature product, delivering what our users need in a timely fashion.
This is the second project from the alliance with callas. Quite Software have also produced a special limited version of Quite A Box Of Tricks called "RGBGone", for sale only with the callas pdfOutputPro product, which prints separations from PDF files. For more details on our joint ventures, please refer to this press release (PDF, 1 page, 28 KB).

15 June 1999 - Quite Imposing wins "Hot Product 99" award
|
Electronic Publishing is "the only monthly digital prepress and electronic publishing magazine dedicated to the Business Leaders Who Buy Techology." In the June, 1999, issue Electronic Publishing pick Hot Products for 1999. Of the 12 products, only five are software, and our own Quite Imposing is one of the winners. "It's a flexible and powerful imposition product for the money. I find myself using it repeatedly," writes contributing editor and prepress consultant Sterling Ledet. Quite founder Aandi Inston said, "We are very proud to have been chosen for this award, and to find ourselves rubbing shoulders with products from companies like Adobe, Epson and Kodak. Quite Imposing is not a product overburdened with fancy graphics or design, but we feel this justifies our policy of concentrating on products that are highly usable, and which just get on and do the job. Since the start of this month, there have been over 1,000 downloads of our Acrobat plug-ins from our web site alone, showing that many share our opinion." The full awards story is available as a PDF file from Electronic Publishing on the web (look for the June, 1999 issue). |

Quite Software is pleased to announce that updated versions of all of our plug-ins will be available within 30 days of the availability of Acrobat 4.0. We also expect to be able to enhance our products to make use of the new features of Acrobat 4.0. From our press release: "Acrobat 4.0 opens exciting opportunities for us to improve our products to meet customer needs," says Quite's Managing Director, Aandi Inston. "Features like larger pages, built-in ICC profiles, and support for pre-separated PDF files, help to address the concerns of users reaching the limits of the Acrobat 3.0 products, and we are ready to extend our products to take these features beyond Acrobat's own support."
More details are available in our press release (PDF, 2 pages, 32K).
6 Jan 1999 - Quite Imposing is Adobe's "plug-in of the month"
|
Adobe, creators of Adobe Acrobat, sell our plug-ins online through their Plug In Source. Quite Software are proud that Quite Imposing has been picked as Plug-in of the month for January 1999 - only the third plug-in to be selected, and the first Acrobat plug-in. Adobe say: "Why do we like it? Quite Imposing fills a critical "gap" in the computer-to-press PDF workflow. And, it does it in a very user-friendly way. Although Quite Imposing (and Quite Imposing Plus) are tools designed for the professional, they are so easy to use that even novices can impose PDF files. And, both products come with enough advice and helpful hints for the new user that you'll not fall into the trap of doing things wrong (and adding to the cost of the print job!)." See: our plug-in of the month page at Adobe; current and past plug-ins of the month; the Plug-in source home page; Quite Imposing purchase page at Adobe; our own pages on Quite Imposing. |
