30 July 2001 - Quite Imposing 1.5b recommended
In the story below, we recommended using version 1.5a of Quite Imposing Plus. It turns out that this would sometimes make things worse, rather than better, while trying to fix the Acrobat 5.0 bug described. If you downloaded 1.5a between 24 July and 30 July, please download 1.5b. We regret any inconvenience caused.
24 July 2001 - We recommend Quite Imposing 1.5 upgrade
|
Quite software today released Quite Imposing and Quite Imposing Plus 1.5a. This is a free upgrade for all existing customers. We recommend this upgrade to all users, because of a serious bug in Acrobat 5.0. The effect of the bug is that text can disappear from a page when the page is imposed. Only text which has "fake bold" used is affected, and it depends on the size of the text and the layout of the page; but if you are receiving files from other people to process, you cannot predict this problem. The effect is visible whenever the imposed file is opened in Acrobat 5.0, even if it was imposed and shown correctly in an earlier version. You can download this upgrade and install it today! There are no new features in this upgrade. (Some were planned, but dealing with this problem has been a priority instead). |
8 June 2001 - Quite A Box Of Tricks 1.5 is released
Following successful testing, we have now released Quite A Box Of Tricks 1.5, as a free upgrade for all users of the product. You can download now. The main new feature is support for "Batch sequences", an Acrobat 5.0 feature, allowing automation of almost all of the functions of Quite A Box Of Tricks, as applied to a group of files or entire directory of files.
We strongly recommend this upgrade for all users. All known bugs have now been fixed, as well as working around (so far as we have been able to find) the Acrobat 5.0 bug mentioned below.
1 June 2001- Quite A Box Of Tricks 1.5 Preview 5 available
The preview for Quite A Box Of Tricks 1.5 is continuing. We have found a serious bug in Acrobat 5.0 which could mean that very small images did not convert correctly, or go all black. This new version fixes this and other bugs, especially with conversion of files exported from InDesign or Illustrator. To try this latest version, please visit our preview pages.
30 May 2001 - PSAlter 1.6 is released
The bad news is that the PSAlter free trial is almost over. The good news is that the trial was a great success, and that as a result we were able to finally release PSAlter 1.6. This version should run 2-3 times faster than the previous released version. For details of changes, and the revised manual, please see the PSAlter pages. This upgrade is free for registered users to download.
In addition, if you have previously evaluated PSAlter and have a temporary license number you can now buy it online. Visit http://www.quite.com/psalter/special/ to enter the license number and visit the store. (Why did we do it that way? We really want everyone to try PSAlter before they buy it, and this helps to make sure of that.) If you would like to evaluate PSAlter just send a note to sales@quite.com.
25 April 2001 - try PSAlter free for May 2001
PSAlter is a unique
environment for problem solving and development with PostScript
in Microsoft Windows. There has not been a new version for a very
long time, but a new beta version, up to three times faster than
the previous release, is ready for testing. We consider it stable
and complete, except for some documentation.
Now you can try this PSAlter beta free until the end of May 2001. Please follow this link for details.
30 March 2001 - we are ready for Acrobat 5.0 - are you?
Adobe have now announced the latest upgrade to the Acrobat suite, Acrobat 5.0. Quite have been working with Adobe throughout the testing period to make sure our plug-ins are ready for you. We are pleased to say that the latest versions of our plug-ins have passed all our tests, and so (provided that Acrobat 5.0 doesn't change any more) they are ready for use.
The versions you should be using for Acrobat 5.0 are at least
- Quite Imposing / Quite Imposing Plus 1.2j
- Quite A Box Of Tricks 1.2h (but see below for information on 1.5)
You can find more details on our Acrobat 5 page. We recommend that you check back here for the latest news when you are actually installing 5.0.
30 March 2001 - preview Quite A Box Of Tricks 1.5 now
We are pleased to announce that the latest version of Quite A Box Of Tricks is now available for preview. This has been optimized for Acrobat 5.0 - but we worked hard to make sure that it still works fine with Acrobat 3.0 and 4.0.
The major new feature in 1.5 can be seen only when you install a copy of Acrobat 5.0. It will support "Batch Sequences", a new Acrobat feature, allowing you to automate many Acrobat functions - including most of the Box Of Tricks functions. Automated sequences can be applied to single or groups of files, or whole folders at once.
If you want to try the preview, please act soon and let us know the results - we aim to release this very soon after Acrobat 5.0 is available.
