Quite Imposing or Quite Imposing Plus V1 for Macintosh

This is not the current version, and is no longer for sale. For the current version click here.

You can download and use Quite Imposing or Quite Imposing Plus. This is the full software, but unless you previously purchased it, it will work for you in a demonstration mode. The main effect of this is that all your imposed pages will be marked with a large X. You can still print your imposed pages to fully test the software.

  • Quite Imposing for Macintosh - qi160.sit (554,926 bytes). Version 1.6c, uploaded November 2004
  • Quite Imposing Plus for Macintosh - qipls160.sit (689,584 bytes). Version 1.6c, uploaded November 2004

Each of these files contains two plug-ins and an online manual. You can copy both of the plug-in files, Acrobat will load the one which is suitable: either the OSX version, or the "classic" (pre-OSX) version. All files should be copied to the Acrobat plug-ins folder, as described below.

If you have previously purchased or downloaded any earlier version, you can install this new version over the top of the old; licensing information is preserved. Please note that the online guide is still for version 1.2, since it is still valid.

Installation

If you have problems following any part of these instructions, please contact us before you start.

1. Make sure you have what you need

You should be running Acrobat 4.0, 4.05, 5.0, 5.05, 6.0 Professional or 6.0 Standard on a compatible MacOS system (Acrobat 6.x is not compatible with MacOS versions older than X.2.). Acrobat 5.05 or 6.0 will run natively in MacOS X.

Download one of the files above. Make sure you know which folder you have downloaded to.

2. Extract the files

The Quite Imposing download contains the files Quite Imposing, Quite Imposing OSX and Quite Imposing Guide.
The Quite Imposing Plus download contains the files Quite Imposing Plus, Quite Imposing Plus OSX and Quite Imposing Plus Guide.

You will need to use a program such as Stuffit Expander to extract these files.

  • Your browser might have automatically extracted the files. If so you will see them.
  • Otherwise, start Stuffit Expander and use File > Expand to open the file you downloaded. This will write the two files you need. In many cases it will create a folder. For instance, if it expands qi150.sit it may create qi150 folder and put the files in that.

3. (Not for Acrobat 6.0) Copy the plug-in and guide

Locate the folder containing Acrobat plug-ins. If you haven't chosen a different folder this will be Adobe Acrobat 4.0:Plug-ins, or Adobe Acrobat 5.0:Plug-ins.

Locate the folder containing the extracted files. Drag them into the plug-ins folder.

4. (Acrobat 6.0 only) Install the plug-in and guide

In Acrobat 6.0, the Mac OS X Plug-in Manager must be used to install the three files for the plug-in.

5. Start Acrobat

If all is well, you will now have a new menu item Plug-ins > Quite Imposing > Imposition control panel, or Plug-ins > Quite Imposing Plus > Imposition control panel. Select this and you should see a window About Quite Imposing. Click OK to start working, or click Guide to start reading the online guide.

Removing the plug-in

Removing from Acrobat 4.0 or 5.0

If you decide you want to remove the plug-in, just delete the files you copied above. The plug-in also creates a folder Quite within the Plug-ins folder. If you are not using any other Quite Software plug-ins, the Quite folder can now be deleted too.

Removing from Acrobat 6.0

If you decide you want to remove the plug-in, use the Plug-in Manager and click the Remove button. The plug-in also creates a folder Quite within your Preferences folder. If you are not using any other Quite Software plug-ins, the Quite folder can now be deleted too.

Upgrading between Acrobat 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0

When you install a new version of Acrobat, the location of plug-ins will be different, and you need to copy the Quite Imposing plug-in to the new location (see step 3 or 4 above). If you want to preserve your settings, just copy the folder called Quite from the old Plug-ins folder to the new Plug-ins folder, or if upgrading to 6.0 Copy this Quite folder to your personal Preferences folder HOME/Library/Preferences. This is where the settings for all Quite plug-ins are held.

Note for Windows users

If you are downloading the Macintosh plug-ins from a machine other than a Macintosh, you should be able to download the file and transfer it to a Macintosh. Most Macintoshes can now read floppy disks formatted on a Windows PC, or Windows-format CDROM. If the file name is changed in transit, don't worry, you can change it back once you have the file on the Macintosh. You must already have a copy of Stuffit expander on your Macintosh; it is not usually possible to download and transfer Stuffit Expander through Windows. Do not "un-stuff" the file on a Windows PC; that won't work.
