Apple updates: Quite products and macOS "Sonoma" and M1/M2 Macs

Information updated 17 March 2025

Warning

There are known issues with Sonoma - please install 5.3m before you upgrade.

What problems are known on Sonoma

The following problems have been found and fixed:
  1. Quite Imposing Plus: Using "Stick on text and numbers" or "Variable data merge" may cause Acrobat to crash, with a misleading Mac message "Update required for Acrobat Pro DC".
  2. Quite Imposing Plus: The first run of Acrobat after installing the plug-in may cause a crash (later runs are not affected).
Please be sure you are running version 5.3m or later of Quite Imposing Plus and Quite Hot Imposing. Download here.

What is macOS Sonoma (macOS 14.0)?

Sonoma is a system for Apple Macs. It is also called macOS 14.0. It is the successor to "Ventura". It is an optional upgrade available for most recent Macs. It was released on 26 September 2023. It was followed in 2025 by Sequoia (macOS 15).

What are M1/M2 Macs ("ARM")?

In 2020, Apple released a new line of Macs called “M1” which use an ARM chip instead of Intel. These require Big Sur or later (including Sonoma). Various similar names are now used e.g. M1MAX, M2. At one time these were called "Apple Silicon". The same discussion applies to allow them. At the time of writing Apple no longer sell Intel Macs, all current Macs are ARM.

Can Quite Imposing Plus run "native" on M1/M2 Macs

Yes! Starting with version 5.3, and recent Acrobat DC, Acrobat can run native on M1/M2, and use Quite Imposing Plus, which is also native M1/M2. Currently, however, "Rosetta 2" is needed to install. Preference settings may be needed in Acrobat. Please see this page.
